Surface Preparing
The preparing of a surface for a coating to be applied, involves the removing of polluters and superficial flaws, as well as providing a satisfying profile, for its best adherence. It has been demonstrated in lab and field, that the anchorage profile, and the cleanliness of the surface, is directly related to the coating’s adherence.

For concrete structures, the surface preparing parameters and norms are the same ones applied to floors. In the metallic structure and machinery cases, there are norms created by institutions like the SSPC (Steel Structure Painting Council), NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) and SIS (Swedish Institute of Standards) that regulate the quality of the prepared surface, according to the system’s application.

Corrosion Control
Most of the systems applied on machinery and structures, are a combination of a primer and a finish. The primers (epoxies for industrial application), other than providing adherence, they usually carry corrosion inhibiter charges that retard deterioring. The finishes are applied with the purpose of complementing certain project characteristics, such as outdoor, substance or chemical vapors resistance, or just to elongate its durability.

Waterproofing
Cementive waterproofing systems:
In the meantime, there are many cementive waterproofers that can be applied over concrete structures such as cisterns, contention walls and gardener among others.
Epoxy and poliurea systems:
There are specific needs when speaking of structures which will contain water for human consumption, for which the use of epoxy or polyurea systems are the adequate option. These materials comply and surpass the International Norms, such as the FDA, and NSF in USA, and European Union directives.
